The history of the Swedish car brand Volvo dates back to 1927. In the same year, their first model, the OV 4, which received the curious nickname "Jacob", left the assembly line of the company.

It is worth noting that from the first days of its existence, the management of the newly-made brand set itself the task of creating the safest cars for all road users, which they have successfully coped with and continue to cope to this day.

That is why we decided to prepare a list of TOP-7 cars that deserve the right to bear the title of the safest Volvo models in the entire history of the company.

Volvo S60

The first generation Volvo S60 debuted on the world stage in autumn 2010, and its serial production started in 2001. The arsenal of the car had a presentable appearance, a high-quality and ergonomic interior, a rich level of equipment and, of course, the highest level of safety.

This vehicle provided a high level of protection in frontal and side impacts as well as rollover. In addition, the model was equipped with excellent anatomical seats with a built-in Whips system, the task of which is to prevent possible damage to the spine in an accident.

In 2007, the Swedes began work on the second generation of the model, which debuted in 2010. Compared to its predecessor, the car has received a new look, improved interior and an expanded list of available security systems.

The third generation of the model is currently on the market, equipped with a large number of electronic assistants, including the Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system.

Volvo XC60

As befits a modern car, the car has a stylish and dynamic appearance, a first-class interior and a large number of all kinds of "gadgets" that are responsible for the safety of the driver and passengers accompanying him.

At the end of 2017, the XC60 crossover was awarded the title of the safest car in its class, which was facilitated by the presence of an advanced autonomous deceleration system (AEB), a complex of IntelliSafe systems, with the help of which the car independently assesses the road situation, warns the driver of possible danger and helps to choose the safest trajectory.

In addition, the crossover body is made with extensive use of high-strength steel, and is equipped with programmed crumple zones designed to reduce the force of impact in frontal and side collisions.

Volvo S80

The Volvo S80 is the company's flagship sedan, first debuting in 1998 and replacing the rear-wheel drive S90. In 2003, the model underwent a planned restyling, during which the sedan received a number of minor improvements - in this form the car existed until 2006, having sold more than 370 thousand copies.

In 2006, the Swedes showed a second generation model, a restyled version of which was released in 2009. In the arsenal of the car was listed a large number of modern security systems, among which:

Volvo 850

In the summer of 1991, Volvo's management presented to the public a completely new model - the Volvo 850, which radically changed the idea of the then cars of the company.

The car was the first model to be equipped with the SIPS side collision protection system, self-adjusting seat belts, and side airbags.

The model was available in two versions - sedan and station wagon, and the latter even received the prestigious awards "Grand Prix for the best design in 1994" and "Most beautiful station wagon".

In 1996, the line was expanded with the 850 AWD, equipped with permanent all-wheel drive and TRACS traction control.

The production of the model was curtailed in the second half of 1996, but a year later after a significant modernization, the model was revived, but already under the name S70 in the sedan version and V70 in the station wagon version.

Conclusion

The latest Volvo models have a host of advanced safety systems on board, including:

  2. The CWFAB system is an accident prevention function with the possibility of full automatic braking.
