Injectors play one of the most important roles in the engine power supply system of a modern car. It is they who ensure the timely injection of fuel, which, mixing with air, enters the combustion chambers.

Since the quality of the fuel used cannot be called ideal, injectors become clogged over time, which leads to a deterioration in the quality of injection... This is reflected in the operation of the engine itself, so it will not be difficult to notice the malfunction.

Causes and signs of injector contamination

In the photo there are dirty nozzles

The main reason for contamination of injectors is the settling of heavy elements of automobile fuel, which occurs immediately after the engine stops. The temperature at the injector body increases due to the hot engine running.

When the engine stops, there is no cooling due to the flow of fuel, so excess fuel is deposited on the surface of the injector. Light chemical compounds burn out, while heavy ones remain and begin to accumulate.

Over time, the deposits become so much that the injector opening decreases, and this leads to unstable operation of the injector, since much less fuel passes through it. Clogged injectors lead to interruptions in the operation of the car engine.

Signs of clogged injectors:

  • difficult to start the motor;
  • the motor works intermittently in idle mode;
  • significant losses of power and dynamism of the engine are noticeable;
  • the car consumes more fuel;
  • the toxicity of exhaust gases increases;
  • there are pops in the exhaust pipe.

The contamination of the injectors is especially noticeable in winter, when the fuel becomes more viscous and it is difficult to start a cold engine.

Nozzle flushing options

Since it will not be possible to avoid contamination of the fuel injection devices, they will have to be washed as soon as the speedometer rolls off the next 30 thousand kilometers. Flushing is performed on a special stand using ultrasound or using flushing fluids.

Since special skills are not required when flushing with special fluids, it is the second cleaning method that is most popular among motorists. The only thing is that it is necessary to establish a high-quality supply of flushing fluid to the nozzles so that it cannot get into the fuel tank. Otherwise, deposits in the tank will also dissolve with the help of the active components of the fluid, which will lead to clogging of the fuel pump. As a result, it is even possible to replace a clogged fuel pump.

The active components of flushing fluids perfectly dissolve resin deposits from the surfaces of nozzles, valves and cylinder walls of an automobile engine. The whole process will not take more than half an hour.

Flushing the dismantled engine injectors

If you need to flush the injectors by removing them from the engine, you will need to simulate the fuel supply system by adding two cylinders filled with cleaning fluid. In addition, you will also need:

  • a small piece of hose 15-20 centimeters long and two clamps to secure it;
  • knife or scissors;
  • a 12 W light bulb;
  • regular two-pin button;
  • a constant current source that could provide a voltage of 12 watts. In this capacity, it can be used for telephone charging.

What you need to do to flush:

  1. First of all, we disconnect the battery wire, which is responsible for the mass. Next, we take out the nozzles themselves, having previously removed the air filter, manifold and other parts that restrict access to the nozzles.
  2. Then we attach the flushed nozzle to the can of cleaning fluid using a hose. We clamp the ends of the hose with clamps, and substitute an empty container to the outlet of the nozzle.
  3. We connect the red wire from the power source to the button, and the other end of the wire to the injector contact. The light is needed in order not to damage the atomizer coil.
  4. We check the performance of the assembled structure by simultaneously pressing the button. The lamp should light up. In addition, a slight clicking sound should be heard in the sprayer.
  5. After checking the operation of the structure, we supply the flushing liquid by pressing the button. We turn on the power supply from the current source.
  6. We carry out cleaning until the jet coming out of the nozzle becomes more powerful and uniform. In a similar way, we rinse all the nebulizers.

Flushing the nozzles without removing them

It is not at all necessary to dismantle the nozzles for flushing - there is a method that allows cleaning directly through the operation of the engine. In this case, the fuel supply is switched off:

  1. For flushing, you need a plastic bottle, into which we pour cleaning fluid and gasoline. For a two-liter bottle, you will need 400 grams of flushing fluid and 200 grams of gasoline.
  2. We put on a hose on the bottleneck, the other end of which is connected to the fuel pump.
  3. Next, we start the engine, which will lead to a pressure drop in the system.
  4. Now we connect the supply hose to the fuel injectors directly to the structure we have assembled, and insert a small plug into the return hose. The most ordinary bolt with a diameter of 10 mm is also suitable.
  5. If there is no leak in the assembled structure, we start the engine and let it run for five minutes.
  6. Then we turn off the motor for five minutes so that the tar deposits are soaked and start the engine again, which should work according to this scheme for at least half an hour.
  7. After washing, we disconnect the assembled structure, and in its place we attach the factory one. It is recommended to replace the spark plugs and reset errors on the control unit if any. Read the article on replacing spark plugs.

How to flush the nozzles of a car engine: flushing fluid

In the photo, Liqui Moly Molygen New Generation 10W-40 engine oil, the price is around 3000 rubles. for 4 liters

Wynn's and LAVR Professional or ML101 (Soft) for flushing nozzles

How to choose the composition of the flushing fluid? This already depends on the degree of contamination of the nozzles and the year of manufacture of the vehicle.

  • The most popular composition is considered to be Liqui Moly, which can be used to clean auto nozzles of any manufacturer. The only thing is that it is not able to remove carbon deposits from the walls of cylinders and valves;
  • the aggressive Wynn’s can do it. Due to its chemically active composition, it is not used on cars manufactured earlier than 2002. Before using it, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the features of flushing for a particular car. The price of Wynn's Injection System Purge in Ukraine is 270 UAH, in Russia 700-1000 rubles;
  • a good effect is also observed when using LAVR Professional. In composition, it resembles the previous liquid for flushing engine injectors, but the cost of the LAVR is about 550 rubles. There is also LAVR ML101 (Soft), green, it is more gentle.

Flushing the injectors is a necessary operation if problems with the engine become noticeable and fuel consumption has increased significantly. It does not take much time and money when working independently - you just need to purchase a composition for flushing and simple electrical equipment.But after flushing, the power characteristics of the engine will significantly increase, and fuel consumption will decrease.
