Chinese cars have recently become more and more popular and attractive for budget buyers. There are several reasons for this, firstly, not the most pleasant economic situation, and secondly, the good assembly and functionality of such Chinese cars. One of these cars is the Chinese crossover JAC S5 2014-2018, which is copied from the Hyundai ix35 in the full sense.

For the first time, the JAC S5 2014-2018 crossover was presented back in 2012, at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Unlike its debut, the car appeared on the automotive market in mid-2014. The front-wheel drive crossover was assigned to the K1 class, which does not mean the best cross-country ability, rather even the parquet version. Engineers and designers talked about developing from scratch, the car was copied from the Hyundai ix35 crossover. Despite such a long period of release of JAC S5 2014-2018 without modifications and generations, the crossover still harmoniously combines European design, classic elegance and good dynamics.

No matter what the engineers and designers of the JAC S5 crossover say, the car is fully copied from the Hyundai ix35. Not surprising, since many Chinese cars are based on a previously known model. In this case, the engineers copied not only the design part for the JAC S5, but also individual elements of the technical part (engine, expansion tanks and other consumables). Outwardly, the crossover looks good, besides, the joints and the quality of painting are also at a height, the entire exterior is more likely modified, and not completely ripped off. The secret is that the Chinese brand JAC has a long-standing good relationship with the Korean Hyundai.

Front of the crossover JAC S5 2014-2018 looks attractive and stylish. First of all, the trapezoidal radiator grill, divided into two parts, catches the eye. The smaller one is rather decorative and is located in the upper part of the front end; it also has the corporate logo of the company in the form of a 5-pointed star. The second grille of the JAC S5 2018 crossover turned out to be an order of magnitude larger in shape and plays the main role for cooling the engine. As inserts, the designers used horizontal strips, which are black as standard, although they can be optionally chrome plated.

The front optics of the JAC S5 2014-2018 crossover turned out to be no less attractive, although it looks simple, but fully emphasizes the overall design of the crossover. The optics are based on halogen lamps, according to the manufacturer, xenon can be ordered as an option. This whole set of parts is installed on the front bumper. Compared to the original Hyundai ix35 crossover, the bumper is still different. On the sides of the bumper, the JAC S5 2014-2018 crossover received recesses for round foglights.

The lower part was embellished with black plastic protection, the same protection is installed along the entire perimeter of the crossover. The last two parts of the front end are the windshield and the hood. Many say that it is because of the hood that the new JAC S5 2014-2018 resembles the original ix35 very well. The center section of the bonnet is slightly raised, and two curved lines stretch from the edge of the grille to the A-pillars. The windshield of the JAC S5 2018 is ordinary, even in the top configuration it is not equipped with heated wipers, which indicates a more budgetary cost of the crossover.

Side crossover JAC S5 2014-2018 more like Hyundai ix35, but still there are those body features that give the uniqueness of the Chinese car. Such features are not always found in most modern crossovers.

The basis for the urban crossover JAC S5 2014-2018 was branded alloy wheels 17 ", with tires 225/60. Otherwise, the side part of the JAC S5 2014-2018 will not surprise you with anything special, the designers used a minimum of chrome parts, although chrome can still be added as an option.

Behind crossover JAC S5 2014-2018 turned out to be more original than copied. The very top of the rear, in the area of ​​the rear window, received a slight slope. The trunk lid itself is small, although loading the cargo is not difficult due to the absence of a step near the bumper. With regard to the rear stops of the JAC S5 2014-2018, here they are more reminiscent of the Audi Q7. Designers have divided them into two parts, one on the body, the second on the trunk lid. At the heart of the halogen stops, more recent models received LED technology in separate elements.

The rear bumper of the JAC S5 2018 is also original, although it still resembles an ix35 in shape. The main part of the bumper is distinguished by two oblong foglights, the very bottom is decorated with black plastic protection and two tips of the exhaust system. Designers tried to give the JAC S5 crossover European features, but still there is a well-recognized Chinese character.

Crossover roof JAC S5 2014-2018 will not differ much between the trim levels. The standard kit includes an electric sunroof, side rails for attaching an additional rack, as well as a whip antenna or in the form of a shark fin. In general, the exterior of the JAC S5 2014-2018 turned out to be something in between the European and Chinese crossover. The package bundle is not bad, and for an additional fee, the buyer is offered many decorative overlays or additional options.

Below the center console of the JAC S5, the air conditioning control panel is located. In addition to the air conditioner, the buttons for controlling the heated front seats are located here. On the sides of the central display, the designers added two air ducts, unlike the ix35, they are rectangular with a small chrome edging.

The beginning of the tunnel is made in the form of a small niche for chargers; a choice of a USB port, a 12V outlet, and a linear input are offered. Further along the central tunnel of JAC S5 2018, a gear lever, a mechanical handbrake (an electromechanical handbrake is not provided) and a pair of cup holders. Finally, a spacious armrest is installed, on the back side the armrest is even, without air ducts and additional functions. The disadvantage of the central tunnel is that the designers decorated it with a glossy panel and after six months of using the JAC S5, characteristic scratches appear on it.

The seats of the new JAC S5 2014-2018 are very comfortable for an inexpensive crossover. Small lateral support, high backrest and comfortable fit - the designers made the seats comfortable without going over the budget. There is no difference in the functionality of the seats between the trim levels, the driver's seat can be adjusted in 6 directions using a mechanical drive, the passenger seat in 4 directions.

Second row seats JAC S5 2014-2018 is designed for boarding three passengers. Not to say that the second row is so comfortable, the designers have deprived it of lateral support, making it completely flat on the seat and back. Folding ratio 60/40, like most Chinese cars.

Least of all changes occurred in driver's seat JAC S5 2014-2018. The designers simply took its design from the previously presented models of the brand and slightly modified the parameters of the interior. There are disadvantages both in the dashboard and in the steering wheel. At first glance, the dashboard of the JAC S5 2018 looks good, stylish and even visible in bad weather. But this is only the first couple of hours, when driving at night from the bright blue backlight, the eyes quickly get tired, and the small dial makes you constantly strain your eyes.

The instrument panel of the JAC S5 itself is divided into three main parts, two cylindrical for a speedometer and a tachometer, a central one for a monochrome display of the on-board computer and small indicators of crossover systems. The steering wheel of the JAC S5 is lined with leather along the contour, but the central part is made of cheap plastic. This combination of materials is not the best, and the plastic itself in the center fades over time and is quickly erased. In total, the JAC S5 steering wheel is designed for three spokes, two side ones are reserved for function buttons, the lower spoke is decorative and decorated with silver plastic. The steering column can be adjusted in height and depth using a mechanical drive.

It would seem that from the Chinese crossover JAC S5, which has not been updated for a long time, one should not expect something modern or attractive, but still the manufacturer spared no effort and technology, which to this day compete not badly with newer cars. Otherwise, the interior of the JAC S5 looks good, with a rich filling and comfortable to drive.

As with most Chinese cars, opt for a technical one. The JAC S5 buyer is offered two gasoline engines (naturally aspirated and turbocharged) and two manual transmissions. Despite the loud name of the crossover, the drive in this JAC S5 model is only front, the all-wheel drive version is not provided by the manufacturer.

There are still doubts about the clearance, it is not clear how the manufacturer made the measurements, and from what point. According to the owners of the crossover, in the presence of engine protection, the clearance is only 150 mm. But the presence of protection is an order of magnitude better than the desired 30 mm ground clearance. The suspension of the JAC S5 2014-2018 crossover does not differ in special details from other modern cars. An independent McPherson suspension is installed in the front, an independent multi-link behind. The brake system is disc in a circle, the drums are excluded from the beginning, since the discs are light-alloy, starting from the basic configuration.

In contrast to the technical characteristics, the manufacturer diversified the safety and comfort systems of the JAC S5 crossover. It is not worth expecting modern active safety systems, since the manufacturer simply did not update the car, moreover, the presence of such technologies will bring the crossover beyond the affordable budget option. Among the list of safety and comfort JAC S5 2014-2018 are:

Whether the JAC S5 crossover will be updated in the near future is still unknown. Most likely, the manufacturer will leave the car, simply creating another model to replace it, more modern and modernized.

Price and configuration JAC S5 2014-2018

The choice of JAC S5 2014-2018 trim levels is small, the buyer has only two options available, a more modest and maximum version of what the manufacturer can offer. Among themselves, the JAC S5 2014-2018 configurations primarily differ in technical characteristics (engine and transmission) and only secondarily, differences in interior trim. The functional part, with the exception of safety systems, is the same for all models.

Today, the Chinese crossover JAC S5 2014-2018 is sold in the CIS countries. In Russia, the car appeared back in 2015, but at first it was not as famous as it is now.The production of JAC S5 for the most part was established in Kazakhstan, the assembly and quality are excellent.

The difference in price between the JAC S5 2014-2018 trim levels is not very big, therefore, the maximum Intelligent trim level is in most demand. According to the owners, the crossover copes well with weather conditions, it is easy to start both in frost and heat. The lack of an automatic transmission on the JAC S5 will seem to some a huge disadvantage, but for such a crossover, such a tandem of the unit and transmission is an ideal solution for long and carefree operation of the JAC S5.

In summary, we can say that the JAC S5 crossover is something between Chinese and European cars. Designers did not closely copy the original Hyundai ix35 crossover, adding unique features and lines of the JAC S5. The interior of the car is consistent and stylish, at the same time it is not inferior in terms of stuffing to modern Chinese models, and the assembly meets many European parameters.
