Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 in Russia came under recall. The reason, solutions, actions of the owners are named.

Once again, the news about the recall of new cars surfaced in Russia. This time, the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 fell under the recall campaign. According to available information, new W177 models that were sold in Russia from 2018 to 2020, inclusive, fell under the recall. The reason for the recall was a leak in the condensate drain system from the air conditioner evaporator. In simple words, the tube that brings water from the air conditioner (from the passenger compartment to the street) simply bursts, and most of the water enters the car interior.

Many already say that recalling cars of famous brands on the territory of the Russian Federation is becoming a normal phenomenon. It is worth noting that this problem was found in both the hatchback and the W177 sedan. The Rosstandart website says that the reason for the recall was damage to the condensate drain pipe, but it does not say what such a breakdown can lead to if it is not eliminated in time.

A similar review was in the United States and is also associated with this model. Unlike the Russian Federation, the USA explained the consequences of such a breakdown. Back in May 2020, in North America, Daimler began to massively accept feedback from W177 owners that the cabin began to smell of dampness. After a few checks, it became clear that moisture was coming from the air conditioner condensate drain hose. According to company representatives, the hose was not properly secured to the line. The very part is located at the bottom of the central tunnel, from the front passenger side.

The problem with the installation of the hose was quickly eliminated and the recalled Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 cars were repaired in a short period. Despite all this, the recall campaign reached Russia, where during this period they managed to sell a considerable number of cars of this model. If you believe the information and the list of VIN codes on the Rosstandart website, then 329 Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 cars were recalled in Russia.

According to experts, the appearance of a smell of dampness or wet feet of a passenger is still a trifle. Much worse if moisture gets into the electronics of the central tunnel. Due to the ingress of water, the electronics can short-circuit and lead to irreversible processes. For example, the engine may stall, the airbags will not deploy at the right time, or much worse the automatic emergency call system will not work in the event of an accident.

That is why owners of Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 in Russia should not postpone a trip to a Daimler service center. The mechanics should re-check the correct operation and installation of the drain hose, and correct the deficiencies appropriately. In the event that water is detected in the electronics, an additional check will be required. Also, such a leak can lead to corrosion of the metal of the body, which means that you will have to engage in unscheduled painting work.
