According to reports, the premiere of a new, compact crossover Toyota Corolla Cross took place in Thailand. The name gives the impression that this is a hatchback, but with increased ground clearance. In fact, the basis for the Toyota Corolla Cross was the proprietary modular platform TNGA-C. It is this basis that is used for the base model of the Toyota Corolla or the C-HR crossover. If we talk about the model place in the company's lineup, then the new product will be located between the RAV4 and the C-HR co-platform.

Comparing Toyota Corolla Cross and C-HR, the first crossover increased in length by 100 mm, added 30 mm in width, and 55 mm in height. Now about the design of the novelty. The exterior of the crossover is in fact an exact copy of the usual Toyota Corolla in the base. The novelty received the same radiator grille, an elongated, narrow front optics, with built-in LED running lights and a black plastic front bumper cover.
The interior of the Toyota Corolla Cross has not changed much either, the digital instrument panel, 9 ″ display of the multimedia system and the exact same design of the air ducts. In terms of technical characteristics, the manufacturer has so far announced two units. The standard will be a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter gasoline engine in tandem with a Direct Shift-CVT (CVT). The power of this set is 140 horses, and the maximum torque is 175 Nm.
The second option is a hybrid installation based on a 1.8-liter engine (power 100 hp and 142 Nm of torque). The electric motor will be able to produce 73 hp, but the total power of the installation will be 123 hp. As in the previous case, the Direct Shift-CVT variator will work in tandem. As for the drive, it is only front-wheel drive and no all-wheel drive is assumed yet. The new Toyota Corolla Cross will be based on 17 ″ or 18 ″ alloy wheels.
According to the standard, Toyota Corolla Cross will receive leather interior trim, a panoramic sunroof, 2-zone climate control, 7 airbags, as well as a TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) safety package. For a separate surcharge, they will offer an electric tailgate. The first country to start selling the new Toyota Corrolla Cross will be Thailand. Expect new items to appear in dealerships in the coming months. The next in line will be India, Australia and Brazil, when the novelty gets to the territory of Russia and the CIS countries is still unknown, similarly, as there is no information about whether there will be sales of Toyota Corrolla Cross in Europe at all.
